Brownfish Handplane ($150)
You don’t need a surfboard to get a decent ride in the waves. The Brownfish Handplane lets you turn short, sand-skimming body surfs into exhilaratingly long runs along the wave face and, yes, even in the tube. The lightweight wood boards—about the size of a forearm—create a larger planing area, raising your upper body out of the water for more controlled and longer surfs. Just slip your hand through the neoprene handle, throw on a pair of surf flippers for added control and easier wave catching, and go hang 10 (fingers in this case) on just about any wave.
