MEC Watchtower Jacket ($45)
A warm, functional fleece for less than $50? Definitely a steal. The Watchtower is simple—it only has one Napoleon-style pocket, a cinch waist and a full-length zip—but it’s one of those versatile items that you’ll wear all the time: in place of a sweater at home, as a mid-weight layer perfect for spring adventures, or as warm-up layer on a hiking break.

Petzl Zipka Plus 2 ($40)
This headlamp might not seem that cheap until you consider all of its functions: three normal light modes, which cast a max of 50 lumens out 115 feet, and two red-light modes (best for eating or reading without blinding your buddy). We also really like the low-battery warning light. Plus, this compact unit weighs only 83 grams (2.9 ounces) with three AAA batteries.

Ryders Garbanzo ($45)
Ryders is known for quality eyewear at a killer price, and the Garbanzo is no exception. The polycarbonate lenses are shatter- and scratch-proof, optically correct, vented to prevent fogging and provide 100 per cent UVA and UVB protection. The frames are made of almost unbreakable plastic, and the nose pads are adjustable for dialling in the fit.
