Official Rules & Regulations

ENTRY IN THIS CONTEST CONSTITUTES ACCEPTANCE OF THESE CONTEST RULES.

  1. This explore Magazine Gift Card Giveaway Contest (the “Contest”) is sponsored solely by Quarto Communications (“explore Magazine”) hereinafter referred to as the “Contest Sponsor”.

Eligibility

  1. The Contest is open to residents of Canada, EXCLUDING the province of Quebec. Employees of the Contest Sponsor and their respective immediate families and employees of Mountain Equipment Co-op advertising and promotional agencies are also excluded.

To Enter

  1. The Contest has four (4) periods of entry (the "Contest Period(s)"), and four (4) prizes to be won. The first contest period opens October 1, 2008 12 p.m. (EDT) and closes October 31, 2008 11:59 p.m. (EDT), the second contest period opens November 1, 2008 12 a.m. (EDT) and closes November 30, 2008 11:59 p.m. (EDT), the third period opens December 1, 2008 12 a.m. (EDT) and closes December 31, 2008 11:59 p.m. (EDT), and the fourth and final contest period opens January 1, 2008 12 a.m. (EDT) and closes January 31, 2009 3:59 p.m. (EDT). Only eligible entries received during the Contest Periods will be entered in the Contest. Entrants’ completed posting within the “explore community” (at www.explore-mag.com) will serve as the entry ballot for the Contest.

  2. Entrants can only enter the Contest as many times as they wish during the Contest Period(s). No purchase necessary to enter, although online access, provision of an entrants contact information, and a valid E-mail address are required in order to participate.

  3. To enter, users must log on to www.explore-mag.com during the Contest Period and submit an entry within the “explore community”. All entries must be received no later than January 31, 2009, 3:59 p.m. (EDT). Current members of the explore community are eligible for entry. Every time you submit a photo or a blog, guidebook, or comment on someone else’s post, you are automatically entered to win. No further entry form is required. Prize(s)

  4. There will be four (4) random draws for the Contest prizes. There are 4 prizes to be won, each prize consists of: one $500.00 CND gift card to Mountain Equipment Co-op. The card can be used to buy or rent gear. A MEC membership is required to use the gift card. Each prize must be accepted as awarded, and is not substitutable, transferable or convertible to cash. Prize(s) are available for pick-up at explore magazine’s head office (54 St. Patrick Street, Toronto, Ontario) by the contest winner(s).

  5. Four (4) random draws will be held, one at the end of each contest period; October 15, 2008 12 p.m. (EDT), November 17, 2008 12 p.m. (EDT), December 15, 2008 12 p.m. (EDT), and February 2, 2009 12 p.m. (EDT), at explore magazine’s head office: 54 St. Patrick Street, Toronto, Ontario, from all ballots received during each of the 4 by the draw deadline. Only online entries will be eligible.

General Conditions

  1. All entries are subject to verification and will be declared invalid if they are illegible, incomplete, forged, falsified, altered, or tampered with in any way.

  2. In order to win, selected entrants must first correctly answer, unaided, a time-limited, mathematical, skill-testing question administered by telephone, e-mail, or mail.

  3. To be declared a winner and claim the prize, the potential winner must be reachable by email within five (5) business days following the random draw at the phone number listed on the entrant’s online profile.

  4. Should the potential winner not be reached during the five (5) business days period for any reason, including, but not limited to, the fact that the potential winner has a call privacy feature on his/her phone, or has not checked email, or no longer receives mail at the address on profile, or if the potential winner does not meet all of the contest conditions as set out herein, the prize(s) shall be automatically forfeited by that potential winner.

  5. All entries shall become the property of the Contest Sponsor.

  6. The winning entrant may be required to sign a declaration and release from liability. The winner agrees to permit the Contest Sponsor to publish the winner’s name, address, photograph, or likeness without further compensation to the winner, in any publicity carried out by Contest Sponsor.

  7. If the Contest Sponsor are unable to award the prize, it will be considered null and void and without value on March 31, 2009.

  8. The Contest Sponsor reserve the right to replace the prize with a prize of equal or greater value.

  9. The winner releases the Contest Sponsor, as well as their advertising and promotional agencies, from liability for any damage or prejudice arising out of the awarding and use of the prize.

  10. The names, addresses, or any other personal information obtained from the Contest participants will only be used, with the consent of the participants, for future research and communication of new products/promotions. For details, please refer to the “Privacy Policy” on the explore website.

The Contest is void where prohibited by law and is subject to all federal, provincial, and municipal laws and regulations. The Contest and the terms and conditions contained in these rules shall be exclusively governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the province of Ontario. Any dispute arising hereunder shall be adjudicated in the applicable court in Toronto, Ontario.
