Montreal has a vast array of kid-friendly hiking and walking trails, both within the city and beyond. Get those hiking boots ready because you will want to try these five family-friendly trails near Montreal this summer!

1. Mont Royal Lookout Trail

Montreal

Length: 6 km total

An internationally known public space and local favourite, the Mount Royal Park lookout tail is not to be missed. Suitable for the entire family with stairway and path sections, the views from Mount Royal span across the entire city. You can choose the length of your adventure by continuing on through the trails that wind through the park, or keep it short and sweet as an up-and-down climb.

2. Le Grand-Duc

Mont-Saint-Bruno National Park

Length: 3.5 km

Distance from Montreal: 25 km

With five lakes and over 27 kilometres of trail systems, this park offers an array of hiking trails suitable for the whole family. For a shorter adventure, The Little Duke is a dog-friendly 1.5-kilometre paved interpretive loop trail that offers informative illustrations. The 3.5-kilometre Grand Duke is stroller accessible for those with rugged wheels.

3. Bois-de-l’Île-Bizard Nature Park

Take a day trip to the island of l’Île-Bizard, where several hiking trails within the Bois-de-l’Île-Bizard Nature Park await. Not only does the reserve have a footbridge and plenty of maple and cedar forests to explore, but the Pointe Aux Carrieres loop trail offers stunning views of the unique star-shaped ‘Lake of Two Mountains.’

4. Parc Des Rapides

With accessible, flat elevation, the Park des Rapides trail is conveniently situated right within Montreal. Perfect for families with strollers and dogs, this paved trail spans along the St. Lawrence River, offering gorgeous views and convenient rest stops along the way.

The Arboretum Morgan offers several family and pet-friendly trails to choose from. The orange trail is a scenic three-kilometre loop suitable for all activity levels year-round, while the red and yellow trails offer shorter and longer hikes respectively. You can also access the trails in the winter by foot, snowshoe or cross-country ski.
