5 Quirky Gear items for Cold-Weather Adventures
As the weather gets chillier, it’s imperative to plan ways to stay warm on outdoor adventures. Explore hiking trails dusted in autumn leaves, pitch a tent in crowd-free campgrounds and paddle across glassy lakes while keeping comfortable. Here are five gear items you might not initially think of that’ll help you stay warmer outside for longer:
1. Wrap Up: Plaid Scarf
When the weather gets brisk, cozy up in a scarf made of cashmere, fleece or wool. And okay, it doesn’t have to be red plaid, but that’s our favourite.
2. Turn On: Rechargable Hand Warmer
A USB-charging hand warmer gives off enough heat to warm your frigid fingers and toes. Plus, it’s much less wasteful then one-time-use disposable warmers.
3. Stay Connected: Touchscreen Gloves
We get that you want to access your phone, but don’t leave your fingers bare. Instead, invest in a pair of gloves that allow you to use your touchscreen at the same time.
4. Add Moisture: Cold Weather Lipbalm
Cracked skin and chapped lips are a (literal) pain in colder temperatures. Bring along a lipbalm, ideally with SPF. Sun protection is vital 365 days of the year. Yup, even in the rain.
5. Be Prepared: Survival Candle
When the worst happens and you get lost or accidentally stay out past dark, you’ll want to be equipped with a candle. Although a flashlight is a great, too, it doesn’t give off heat—and requires batteries, which can go dead in the cold.
