Sandra Thomas

Sandra Thomas is an award-winning journalist and travel writer who, until recently, was travel and lifestyle editor at the Vancouver Courier newspaper, which closed in 2020 due to COVID-19. Since then, Sandra has had bylines in publications including Slate magazine, Bon Vivant by Ensemble, West Coast Traveller, Cannabis Retailer, VITA lifestyle magazine and, now, Explore. While Sandra has travelled the world in search of stories, she often finds compelling people and subjects to write about in and around her hometown of beautiful Vancouver, B.C.

BC Mountaineering Through the Ages in the New Museum of North Vancouver

Barbara Hilden, curator of MONOVA, which opened on December 4th, 2021, says the history of mountaineering has been woven into the very fabric of life on the North Shore. “Our early evaluations of what stories the museum should tell showed a passion for place and passion for adventure. That came off loud and clear from the community as a major theme,” says Hilden. “It’s not a huge gallery, but one-third of it, or a little less, is dedicated to the important stories of mountaineering.”
