Dangerous Animal Encounters – Section 4: Closing
« Back to the table of contents
I hope you enjoyed this class. As someone who loves the outdoors and enjoys teaching others about it, I appreciate the opportunity this class has given me to bust some myths about dangerous animals and help people to minimize the risk of dangerous encounters with animals in the wild.
Remember, the single most important thing to keep in mind when outside, is simply to pay attention. Not only will it keep you out of trouble, but it will greatly enhance your overall experience.
One last note that I’d like to make before we end, is that while the methods that I have laid out are, in my experience, very effective, there are no absolutes and none of this information 100 percent guarantees prevention of serious injury or death in all dangerous animal encounters.
The good news is that as I’ve stated before, deadly encounters with wild animals are extremely rare. Media certainly perpetuates the myth that these encounters are common though sensationalist reporting and the fact that in the modern world we hear about all the crazy stories from all over the world. When reading or listening to these stories don’t forget to put them in context and remember that a lot can be learned second hand from others who have been in dangerous or life threatening scenarios.
Most importantly though, don’t forget to enjoy yourself outside!
