Daylight Saving Time: 5 Gear Items to Light Up the Dark and Stay Out Adventuring Later

Despite constant debate about stopping daylight saving time, Canada will be turning the clocks back again and getting an extra hour of sleep on November 7th, 2021.
This means it will be lighter in the morning, but the sunset will come earlier. In anticipation of dealing with more darkness after work and school, we’ve rounded up some great light sources that will help you get outside and adventure—even in the dark days of winter.
1. Wrist
For mountain biking or walking the dog
UltrAspire made this Lumen 100W Wrist Light as a hands-free option for running, but we could also see it working well for cycling or walking at dusk and dawn. The flashlight takes a single AA battery, which screws in easily, and has an adjustable wrist strap. Wrap it around your arm like a watch or keep it above your thumb, balancing on the back of your hand.
2. Waist
For trail running
This light wraps around your midsection for hands-free illumination on the trail. The wide-angle cone light casts shadows across uneven surfaces, so you can see the terrain better. There’s a removable pocket on the back to stash your phone or a snack, a fatigue-free buckle system to easily undo the buckle, and a limited-stretch elastic belt for a more comfortable, natural breathing pattern. The battery included is an UltrAspire rechargeable 18650 battery. There’s also a USB charging port with an included USB charging cable.
3. Headlamp
For hiking, climbing or paddling
All adventurers need a dependable headlamp. This light is ideal for multi-sport use, whether you hike, bike, run, paddle, climb, cross-country ski or snowshoe. The Silva Cross Trail 7XT Headlamp outputs 600 Lumens and is water-resistant. The 3.5 Ah rechargeable battery can last for 16 hours on minimum mode, and it has a backup reserve mode to help you can get home safely. Accessories included are a helmet bracket, bar mountain attachment for bicycles, extension cord and battery holder on the back of the strap.
4. Flashlight
For camping
Albeit basic, sometimes you just want a good old flashlight. The Silvia Seeker RC is a top-end model. It has three light modes, an anti-roll design and a tail stand. The flashlight is fully waterproof up to one metre. It’s robust and durable with an aluminum body. The 700 Lumens output makes it a sleek, powerful option for campers and explorers.
5. Lantern
For chilling (literally) outdoors
Hang this USB-charging lantern inside your tent, outside on your camping chair or anywhere else with an easy loop—like your hiking backpack! This portable camping lantern is water-resistant and highly durable. It has three power settings for the best ambient glow.
