Adidas Terrex Advanced Jacket — $550
Among the many features of Adidas Outdoors’ premium alpine jacket is its unique approach to face protection. A facemask, featuring three-layers of Gore-Tex and soft merino wool lining, folds outward and works in tandem with your goggles and the jacket’s hood to leave no facial skin exposed to the elements, yet retains breathability. Beyond this mug-shielding benefit, the jacket is ergonomically shaped with Adidas’ proprietary Formotion cut — perfect for high-intensity activity — and features three-layers of taped-seam Gore-Tex throughout, waterproof zippers, vented side-pockets and even reflective strips. TaskOne iPhone 5 Case — $100
Let’s call this an App for “real life.” Rather than a video telling you how to fix your bike, how would you like a tool to actually do the job? Enter the TaskOne iPhone 5 Case. Roughly the same size as many protective iPhone cases, this unit features 22 real-world tools, such as a removable knife, sawblade, flathead and Phillips screwdrivers, pliers with integrated wrench, wire-stripper, 120 mm ruler, a bottle opener (for when the job is done), Allan wrenches and even a kick-stand to prop-up the unit for Facetime calls. Zippo Outdoor 4-in-1 Woodsman — $80
Equal parts camping handy-tool and survivalist’s dream, Zippo Outdoor’s 4-in-1 Woodsman combines an axe, bow-saw, hammer and tent-stake puller into a single package. Most obviously, this is a hatchet featuring a 13-cm tang blade with durable plastic sheath and a polymer-wrapped full-metal handle. Inside the handle is a 38-cm saw blade that slips out and attaches via a set-screw and cam-blade tensioner — the blade is capable of sawing through branches of up to about 10 cm in diameter and the axe-sheath features a sticky grip to ensure a no-slip grasp while sawing wood. A sturdy hammer is found on the backside of the axe head and a tent-stake puller flips out from the butt of the handle. Full dimensions are 50 cm by 20 cm; weighs less than two kilograms.
