Lululemon Namaste at the Beach

Turf and surf. With four-way stretch and a roomy fit, these lined shorts work great for runs or hikes. When it’s time to cool off, the Lycra keeps its shape, the DWR treatment and a light fabric helps them dry fast and there’s a waist tie for keeping them in place. 

Headsweats Bigfoot Trucker

Any trucker hat can keep the sun off and adds personality, but these ones also keep sweat out of your eyes with a terry headband, the technical mesh shields the back of your head from UV damage and the varied Bigfoot graphics are pretty awesome. 

Patagonia Storm Racer Running Jacket 

($300; patagonia.com)

This 170-gram jacket sheltered us from two full days of downpours without a leak, a rarity for an ultra-light. It uses Patagonia’s proprietary three-layer membrane in a minimal design ideal for fast and light missions.

Burton Outerwear Jackets MB Gore B-17 3L Shell

($600; burton.com)

Boring name, yes, but this is the most stylish technical jacket we’ve tried. It pairs Gore’s top-performing Pro membrane with a surf-inspired, almost-trench-coat length and big pockets. More than good looks, it also kept our legs drier. A worthy town and country shell. 

Outdoor Research Gauge S/S Tee

($65; outdoorresearch.com)

A lot of science goes into how the honeycomb structure of the Polartec Delta fabric combines with sweat to cool the skin and wick and dry fast. All you really need to know is the Gauge will keep you comfortable in the heat, even when you’re working hard. 

Mountain Hardwear Right Bank Scrambler Pant 

($90; mountainhardwear.com)

Lightweight and stretchy, these pants are great for all kinds of climbing, hiking or generally being active. They also look casual. We found ourselves wearing them around town too, making them a great pick for seamless après transitions.

Canada Goose Brossard Jacket

($450; canadagoose.com)

When they’re travelling, our testers look for a jacket that’s flattering and not too technical, but also protects from rain and wind. Thigh-length and slim and made from a wind- and water-resistant but still breathable fabric, the Brossard does all that and then some. 

Darn Tough Spur

($29; darntough.com)

If you fall into the “socks are socks are socks” camp, you should buy a boatload of these. They look like an everyday sock with patterns that blend, but still have light under-foot cushioning and enough tech to stay comfy in sweaty situations. Plus, Darn Tough offers a lifetime warranty.
