Gear Test and Review: Northern Sun Takes on the Yukon
I’m hiking to Crocus Bluffs, sweat sticking to my spine. Despite the crisp morning air, it’s a steep uphill jaunt to the scenic lookout near Dawson City, Yukon, and I’m feeling warm in my 3-in-1 Northern Sun Mid-Length Waterproof Winter Jacket.
“One minute,” I tell my partner, Tavis. I unzip the inner closure between my fleece and shell, peel off the outer layer and leave just the comfortable fleece on my skin. “Much better,” I sigh with relief.
I tie the shell around my waist and continue to the lookout, sauntering beneath towering trees where squirrels scavenge for winter sustenance and passing a lone player on a scenic disc golf course in the forest. I’m able to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of our hike because I feel comfortable.

Later that evening, we head to the Midnight Dome in Lightweight Packable Down Jackets. As the sun sets, we soak in the views above Dawson City and watch the dimming light dance on the Yukon River. As dusk settles, the area grows chilly, but I feel perfectly cozy in my puffy.
