Gear Guide: New Footwear for the Seasons
Looking for some new kicks for spring, summer and fall? Read on for full reviews:
Spring:
Hi-Tec Altitude V WPi
(hi-tecstore.ca; $150)
Our tester loved the classic look of the all-leather upper—but the Hi-Tec Altitude V WPi has beauty that’s more than just skin deep. Suited for spring conditions, this fully-waterproof light hiker delivers effective wet-weather protection and combines an EVA midsole with an aggressive rubber outsole for comfy steps and sturdy footing. Summer:
KEEN UNEEK
(keenfootwear.com/uneek; $100)
Never a company to sit still, KEEN has already updated their UNEEK from inception last year. New colours (including some sedate tones, yay!) plus improved fit—which was already outstanding—along with faster-drying cords make this funky sandal even more user-friendly.
Fall:
Vasque Sundowner GTX
(vasque.com; $220)
Vasque is returning to their roots with the new Sundowner GTX, due out for the fall hiking season. It looks like a boot from the 1970s—it is inspired by the original Italian-designed Sundowner—and the PU midsole and hardy U.S.-tanned leather hint at a long lifespan. But let’s be honest, we love the style most of all.
