Go here: Durrand Glacier Chalet
Why you should visit this stunning chalet
It’s hard to know where to begin when describing the experience of hiking at the Durrand Glacier Chalet, now celebrating its 25th anniversary. First, there’s the short-but-thrilling helicopter ride into the lodge’s exclusive alpine wonderland in B.C.’s Selkirk Mountains. Then there’s the building itself—a Swiss-style chalet with comfy beds, hot showers and incredible views in all directions. There’s also the menu—prepared by a gourmet chef and worth the price of the trip all on its own.
But ultimately, it’s the hiking that people come for, often again and again. Over the years, owner Ruedi Beglinger and his staff have built an extensive trail network through their 80-square-kilometre tenure. The paths wind across flower-packed meadows, past small lakes and above several huge waterfalls. But even more impressively, they take you high into the alpine, where you get stunning views of one of the largest glaciers in the B.C. interior. Be warned, however: You’ll be sharing the vistas with the resident mountain goats. For more info: selkirkexperience.com; (250) 837-2381.
