MEC Ottawa Paddlefest this weekend

I’ll be presenting this weekend in Ottawa at the MEC Paddlefest. The talks are Saturday afternoon – first one is “How to be a Happy Camper” which basically covers how to be more comfortable while camping, and the second talk is titled How to Pack for a Longer Canoe Trip.” The second one will be easy because I just got back from a long canoe trip and I’ve decided not to unpack my gear until I’m presenting in Ottawa this weekend. Warning! My socks may stink a bit.

Here’s more about the event:

Paddlefest 2009 was a great success even when the wind blew and the rain fell!

This event would not be possible with out the on-going generous support and commitment of the outdoor and paddlesports community.

The Ottawa Paddlefest is an opportunity to learn how to paddle, pick up new skills, and test out different boats. It is a collaborative celebration of all forms of paddling that will bring community together to engage in learning and fun.

This one day family event has something for all ages and skill levels – whether you’re a beginner or seasoned paddler – the host of informative on-water and on-land sessions will be certain to engage all who come to participate.

There will be plenty of demo canoes and kayaks from our exhibitors as well – so come test drive a few!

If you think paddling looks fun but you are not interested on being out on the water, there will be plenty of land sessions from yoga for paddlers, to GPS navigation or planning a long trip.

If it rains, we get wet! We will be on the water, unless it is unsafe!

Mooney’s Bay Park is located in the south end of the city, beside Ottawa’s historic Rideau River. It’s a perfect setting for paddling clinics, and a great place to try out new boats. The park is next to public transit, and the cycling path runs right through the park.

Please note that parking is limited, and is metered by the City of Ottawa, so we recommend car pooling or taking alternative transportation if possible.

Registration

Registration begins in May. Please visit or contact the Ottawa store for details.
