New Fastest Known Time established by Jeanelle Hazlett on Mount Brunswick
Words and photo by Brice Ferre
In August 2019, only 12 days after her Squamish 50 Miles win (for her first 50-mile race!), my good friend and Salomon Vancouver Teammate Jeanelle Hazlett decided to try and establish a new Fastest Known Time (FKT) on the Mount Brunswick Trail. This epic run would be marked from the parking lot (yellow gate) to the true summit and back.
Jeanelle is by far the strongest and fastest athlete I know, and she and I have been training and adventuring together for the past three years now. We have collaborated on many photo and video projects since we met, on our own fun adventures or for the local Salomon Vancouver Athletes’ Team.
So, when Jeanelle told me she wanted to try and beat the current record on Mount Brunswick, it became very clear to me that I had to create a video around her attempt. The video would also explain why she does these things and showcase how incredibly talented she is, running on a ridge that most people are scared to hike on.
In this video, we see what it takes to establish a Fastest Known Time (FKT), and not only beat the previous record, but absolutely annihilate it. FKTs raise the bar and hopefully inspire trail runners to get out there and push their limits, and eventually beat Jeanelle’s record. It was a true pleasure for me to witness Jeanelle’s accomplishment and to create a movie around her. I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed putting it together.
