Patio Camping: Your New DIY At-Home Summer Adventure
I love camping. Sharing stories and roasting smokies around a crackling campfire; spearing marshmallows for s’mores and getting covered in a gooey mess of melted chocolate and graham cracker crumbs; falling asleep beneath a tapestry of stars—my best summer memories take place outside.
Of course, this summer might be a little different. Depending on the restrictions in your area, you might not be able to get out to a traditional campsite. But don’t worry—we’ve tested and tried a new overnight adventure (s’mores included!) that even those with tiny downtown apartments can enjoy: patio camping.
Is it the same as pitching a tent in the forest? No, of course not; but it’s still an incredible way to get some fresh air and experience the feeling of being on an adventure.
That night, my roommate and I tucked into the tent to watch a movie. We brought her electric-heated blanket (via extension cord) and had no problems connecting to Netflix (via Wi-Fi). When I emerged from the cocoon of our polyester walls, I was startled to find myself surrounded by apartment windows. I hadn’t forgotten where we were, but the tent had helped soften the edges of the city.
Have you tried patio camping? What was your experience like?
