Ski Poles That Don’t Suck: Yardsale’s New Take on an Old Gear
When it comes to ski gear, poles are objectively the least thrilling piece to purchase. Making two sticks of metal fun and different is difficult, especially when any poles on the market seem to be a hassle to carry and a trap for gloves to get caught in.
Noticing the gap, San Francisco-based ski brand Yardsale sprung into action. Born from a love for shredding, sharing memories with friends on the hill and quality gear that lasts, Yardsale launched their innovative ski poles in 2023.
Their P1 design features magnetic baskets and handles designed to make heading to the slopes and getting on the lift that much easier. With the unique rectangular basket design, they effortlessly snap together for easy carrying.
While most ski pole wrist straps are difficult to get thick gloves in and out of, Yardsale’s wrist straps are 3D-knit to stay propped open, allowing skiers to easily maneuver their hands through. This also makes the straps more durable and long-lasting while skiers consistently work their poles into the ground.
Not only do the features outmatch other poles on the market, but the quality of the poles stands the test of time. Made with lightweight seven-series aluminum with an ice-crushing steel tip, the poles are tested heavily under industry standards. If skiers happen to break a pole, Yardsale will send a replacement piece for free—all they ask is that skiers share the story of how they broke it.
A notable setback for their P1 poles relates to the flat-edged baskets, which do not perform well in powder. Their narrow design tends to sink into the snow and is better for maintained slopes.
Reflecting on this shortcoming, Yardsale launched its P2 poles this year. These new poles house wide baskets designed for powder, while still featuring the signature magnetic convenience. This style also features longer handles, allowing backcountry and professional skiers more versatility while traversing across difficult terrain.
Along with these ingenious features, Yardsale makes customizable poles with electric colours that stand out on the hill. Skiers can mix and match the handles, baskets, straps and poles to create their perfect set.
