The Happy Camper: Interview with Filmmaker Chris Prouse
I asked well-known film maker and YouTube celebrity, Chris Prouse, the ultimate question during a recent Happy Camper Whisky Fireside Chat: Why spend your work week filming for clients, and then do the same for your outdoor-oriented YouTube channel during your weekends and holidays? Her answer was so simplistic, but also so inspirational:
“Because I absolutely love it.”
I’ve been a big fan of Chris’ work for a long time now, and it was so exciting to finally be able to get together with her and her partner Julia (and new baby Cedar) to sit and chat over a wee dram about what motivates outdoor writers, photographers, artists, outdoor retailers, guides and filmmakers to get more people out into the wilderness we cherish so much. After all, it’s a bit of a double-edged sword. The more people you reconnect with nature, the more that wild places seem to be getting “loved-to-death” out there.
Just make note of some iconic pine tree or natural rock sculpture on social media and the next thing you know it’s been trashed by hordes of weekend warriors equipped with selfie-sticks.
Chris responded: “When you experience something so profound like that, you feel compelled to share it with the world.” Her experiences she’s had out there are far more profound than our mundane lives back at home. And she’s good at it. Her talent at filming and telling a good story really shines through.
Check out the interview below. And yes, to be fair, I agreed she could interview me about the same subject as well. I have to say, Chris was one of the few who’s ever been able to grab more of my serious side than my usually goofiness.
Enjoy.
