The Happy Camper: New Trangia Micro Stove, the Smallest Yet

I’ve changed things up a bit with camp stoves for 2025. I’ve planned a lot of day hike outings and a lot more backpacking treks. For those, I want to go as light as possible. So, I picked up Trangia’s new Micro Cookset. It’s my smallest stove yet.

A couple of years ago, Trangia came out with their Trangia Micro. It quickly became a favourite stove kit for trippers looking for something lightweight and effective. But now, they have a new, lighter design with an HA surface treatment, which basically means it has a matte finish that’s more scratch resistant—and it’s darn portable.

The Trangia Micro Cookset is made up of a 0.5 litres (17 ounces) T-Cup with a lid, the classic spirit burner (or gel burner if preferred) and a windscreen. The bonus is that the windscreen and burner nests into the cup when you’re not using it. It ends up being a darn small (188 grams or 0.4 pound), packable (packed dimensions are 112×83 millimetres or 4.4×3.2 inches) and a very effective stove/cooking system.

At the end of the day, I got this stove for two major reasons. First, it’s a lightweight system that works efficiently. Second, not much can go wrong with it. It’s like a mini fondue set. Perfect! The only negative thing I’ve noticed so far: make sure you keep the plastic handle away from direct flame—just say’n.
