The Happy Camper: Snowtrekker Minimalist Hot Tent Review
I got a new hot tent—and it’s amazing.
The Snowtrekker Minimalist—a new design for Snowtrekker, and I couldn’t wait to try it out. I have two other tents from Snowtrekker—the Basecamp and Shortwall. I picked up a third to “minimize” on solo trips; for which this tent works perfectly.
It weighs 6.5 kilograms (14.6 pounds) and measures 213 cm x 244 cm (7′ x 8′). The smaller size, plus the smaller side poles, reduce the weight considerably. I wondered how it would hold-up in high winds with the reduced side poles, but it seemed fine—as long as I pegged and roped it up snug.
A smaller stove with a small-diameter stove pipe fits in the tent. On my first trip with it, the temperature only plummeted to -9 degrees Celsius overnight. It would be interesting to see how well it does when it drops below -20.
Check out the video of my first trip—and watch the special bonus of making rum bannock in a Dutch Oven.
