When to Reserve Your Parks Canada Campsite for 2024



    

Find out when to book your Parks Canada campsites for the 2024 camping season in the Canadian provinces and territories.

    

Among towering mountains, pristine lakes and dense forests, campers find solace under starlit skies. Whether seeking the thrill of backcountry adventures or the tranquillity of sleeping beachside, the country’s diverse national parks offer an array of experiences for every camper. Given the high demand for camping during the summer, securing reservations for campsites is mandatory for many of the country’s national parks. Book as soon as reservations open to avoid disappointment.

    

Yukon

From May 17 to September 21, pitch your tent at one of the 38 campsites at Kathleen Lake Campground. Though un-serviced, each site provides essential amenities like a potable water tap and outhouses. While the campsites operate on a first-come, first-served basis, it’s recommended to make reservations for the five oTENTik sites at the campground, which offer additional comforts including a picnic table, a wood-burning stove and two queen-sized mattresses along with one double mattress.

Northwest Territories/Alberta

Canada’s largest national park that straddles the border between northeastern Alberta and southern Northwest Territories offers an unparalleled camping experience. From May 17 to September 29, Pine Lake Campground provides 20 non-electrical sites on a first-come, first-served basis, with a suite of amenities like a cook shelter, playground and a sandy beach. Groups of at least eight can secure a spot at Kettle Point Group Camp, while those seeking seclusion can reserve the Patrol Cabin or Aurora Cottage—two remote cabins overlooking Pine Lake.

British Columbia

     

Pacific Rim National Park Reserve

This park along the western shores of Vancouver Island is divided into three distinct regions: the Long Beach Unit, the Broken Group Islands and the West Coast Trail Unit. Green Point Campground is the park’s sole front-country option and offers 94 drive-in sites equipped with flush toilets, showers and fire pits. For a serene escape, venture to the Broken Islands. Campsites on seven islands are accessible exclusively by paddlers and require reservations. Those embarking on a multi-day backcountry hike along the West Coast Trail will find designated campsites along the route.

Yoho National Park

The park offers four front-country campgrounds, with reservations available for Kicking Horse and Takakkaw Falls, while Monarch and Hoodoo Creek operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Kicking Horse Campground, situated along the Kicking Horse River, stands as the park’s largest with 88 sites. Favoured for its views of Cathedral Mountain, it offers 44 reservable and 44 first-come, first-served sites, providing convenient access to the Village of Field, the Spiral Tunnels National Historic Site and Takakkaw Falls.

Banff National Park

Choose from nearly 2,500 campsites spread across 13 campgrounds in the country’s oldest national park. Most campgrounds operate seasonally from May to October, except for the year-round Tunnel Mountain Village II, a popular pick for its proximity to Banff. Those seeking picturesque waterfront views should secure a spot at Lake Louise or Two Jack Lakeside Campground, where reservations are highly recommended.

While Whistlers, Wapiti, Wabasso and Miette campgrounds, along with backcountry sites, allow reservations, others operate on a first-come, first-served basis. For hot showers, full hook-up sites for RVs and easy access to the town of Jasper, secure a spot at Whistlers Campground, the park’s largest with 781 sites.

Grasslands National Park

The park offers two front-country campgrounds operational from May to October, along with two year-round backcountry options. In the West Block, Frenchman Valley provides 20 electrical campsites with amenities like firepits and picnic tables. At the East Block’s main entrance, Rock Creek offers 24 electrical campsites featuring a cooking shelter, picnic tables, a community firepit and Wi-Fi.

Riding Mountain National Park

Among the park’s five front-country campgrounds, including Deep Lake, Moon Lake, Whirlpool Lake and Lake Audy, Wasagaming Campground stands as the largest, offering 446 sites. It’s also conveniently located within walking distance of the main beach, a network of hiking and biking trails and Wasagaming townsite.

Bruce Peninsula National Park

Bruce Peninsula National Park boasts three campgrounds. Cyprus Lake Campground is the park’s only front-country campground, offering 232 un-serviced drive-in sites across the Tamaracks, Birches and Poplars sections. Each site features a picnic table, firepit with grill and convenient access to Cyprus Lake. Backcountry enthusiasts can opt for Stormhaven and High Dump. Whether front or backcountry camping, reservations are required from May to October.

Thousand Islands National Park

Explore the more than 20 islands that makeup Thousand Islands National Park, reachable only by boat. Camp on one of eight islands and choose from 28 reservable and 32 first-come, first-served campsites. Those who want to camp on the mainland can reserve one of five oTENTik roofed accommodations at Mallorytown Landing. These cozy accommodations come equipped with beds and mattresses for six, a table and chairs, a cellphone charging station and a charcoal barbeque.

The park boasts 352 semi-serviced campsites across three front-country campgrounds: Cap-Bon-Ami, Petit-Gaspé and Des-Rosiers. Among them, Petit-Gaspé serves as the park’s largest, with 167 sites and a suite of amenities, including a swimming pool, playground and access to coin-operated laundry machines. The park also offers backcountry options for those seeking a more secluded adventure.

Situated within walking distance of the Village of Alma, Headquarters Campground offers stunning Bay of Fundy views, proximity to hiking trails and a host of recreational facilities, including tennis, lawn bowling and swimming.

Cape Breton Highlands National Park

Operating from May 17 to October 27, campers can choose from seven front-country and one backcountry campground, with reservations available for Chéticamp, Mkwesaqtuk/Cap-Rouge, Ingonish Beach, Broad Cove and Fishing Cove campgrounds, while Corney Brook and MacIntosh Brook operate on a first-come, first-served basis. The newest campground, Mkwesaqtuk/Cap-Rouge, offers options for traditional campsites or cozy oTENTik accommodations.

For a serene experience along Bonne Bay, opt for the newly renovated Lomond Campground, which comes equipped with a dock and boat launch.
