It’s Highly Portable
Measuring 45.9 x 31.6 x 26.6 centimetres—nearly half the size of the SOUNDBOKS 4—the 20-pound SOUNDBOKS Go features a built-in handle and an optional carry strap to provide more portability, making it convenient for light hikes to your secluded camping or picnic spot. It’s also easy to bring into the backyard for a pool party or use for your favourite tunes at an outdoor wedding.
Constructed from a blend of highly versatile and durable acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) thermoplastic and polycarbonate, both the cabinet and honeycomb grill are robust and dent-proof, so you don’t need to worry about tossing it in the back of a pickup or packing it in the canoe with your camping gear. Silicone rubber bumpers add an extra layer of protection and help the speaker grip any surface, and the loops on the sides of the speaker allow you to attach accessories for your outing like headlights, headlamps and extra carabiners. The speaker is dustproof and splashproof, with IP65 water protection safeguarding the internal hardware against rain or splashes by the ocean, river or lake.
It Has Great Sound Quality
The speaker offers three equalizer (EQ) presets: Bass+, Power and Indoor. Bass+ is perfect for outdoor parties or heavy bass music, delivering the loudest volume and enhanced low-frequency sound. Power mode, the default setting, balances volume with battery conservation, while Indoor mode achieves a balanced sound for indoor settings like living rooms and bedrooms once you’ve returned home from your outdoor adventure.
With its 10-inch woofer and one-inch silk dome tweeter, this relatively compact device packs a punch and delivers a maximum output of 121 decibels (dB) in Bass+ mode. A normal conversation measures around 60 dB, and a lawnmower operates at approximately 90 dB, so the SOUNDBOKS Go is capable of filling large, crowded spaces with ease, making it perfect for backyard pool parties, barbecue cookouts, patio gatherings and other outdoor events.
When testing the audio at full volume in Bass+ mode in an open field on a calm evening, the bass and lyrics remained clear even when I stood 100 metres away from the speaker, only becoming noticeably quieter around 300 metres away. The bass was still faintly audible at 500 metres away, showcasing the speaker’s impressive range. Given the powerful volume of the speaker, it’s important to always play music at a respectful level appropriate for the circumstances, and be especially mindful in public outdoor spaces and when sharing the outdoors with others.
It Boasts an Impressive Battery Life
At full volume, the speaker boasts a battery life of up to 10 hours, extending to 40 hours at mid-volume, with a charging time of just 3.5 hours. Setting the SOUNDBOKS Go apart from many other portable speakers is its removable battery feature, which allows for easy swapping and is especially handy in remote locations where recharging can be challenging. Plus, instead of purchasing an entirely new set of speakers when the battery reaches the end of its life, you can simply buy a replacement battery.
It Has an App
Stream music from various audio sources like tablets and smartphones via Bluetooth. While downloading the SOUNDBOKS app isn’t mandatory to operate the speaker, it simplified my experience. Once the speaker is connected to the app, you can adjust the volume, customize your sound profile and save preferences to tailor it to you. Plus, with the TeamUp feature on the app, you can link up to five SOUNDBOKS speakers and control them individually for an even more immersive audio experience.
