10 of the Best Hikes Near Yorkton, Saskatchewan
Yorkton is probably best-known for its contributions to the grain industry and as hikers, we certainly rely on our fair share of oats to fuel us!
However, it can also be a great home base for exploring the southeastern corner of Saskatchewan. Located just 45 minutes from the Manitoba border and two hours from Regina, you won’t want to miss these fantastic hikes near Yorkton, Saskatchewan!
Yorkton Ravine Ecological Preserve
Distance: 2.6 km
Elevation gain: Minimal
Enjoy the beautiful views of the Yorkton Ravine as this trail traverses the perimeter of the “lake.” You’ll also find interpretive signage marking the locations of a historic farm that was once here. A floating boardwalk was recently added so you can cross the water for even more vantage points! Access is via Sully Avenue just off Broadway Street West.

York Lake Regional Park Nature Trail
Distance: 2.9 km
Elevation gain: Minimal
Enjoy views from the lakeshore as this trail follows the edge of Yorkton Lake. While some parts of the trail can be a little rutted from ATV use, the trail is enjoyable and a great place to stretch your legs close to Yorkton. Parking and trailhead are located inside York Lake Regional Park.

Leflay Trail
Distance: 2.3 km
Elevation gain: Minimal
Located near the Saltcoats District Regional Park, the Leflay Trail is a prime spot for spotting birds and other wildlife. The trail meanders through an aspen grove and into a grassy marsh towards the east edge of Anderson Lake. This trail begins near the east exit road in Saltcoats District Regional Park.

Good Spirit Dunes Discovery Trail
Distance: 3.4 km
Elevation gain: Minimal
The trail takes you through a thick section of bush until you reach a wide expanse of sand dunes. This trail is also a part of The Great Trail network. If you’d like to continue your hike, there are additional trails that connect with this one. Good Spirit Dunes Discovery Trail begins near Good Spirit Lake Beach, inside the provincial park.

Neudorf Nature Trail Loop
Distance: 6.1 km

Take a deep breath and reconnect with nature as this trail takes you through a dense forest. As such, you’ll be treated to an abundance of animals including a plethora of birds, beavers, muskrat and possibly a moose sighting or two! Parking and trailhead are located at the south end of Main Street in Yorkton.

Distance: 13.8 km
Elevation gain: 310 m
Enjoy everything Echo Valley Provincial Park has to offer with this epic trail. Take in the sights of Pasqua Lake and the variety of landscapes within the park. If this is a little too long for you, it’s easy to cut it into shorter, separate adventures. You can start at a number of points in Echo Valley Provincial Park such as the Lakeview Campground or Little Maclean Campgrounds.

Sandy Beach to Katepwa Beach
Distance: 5.3 km
Elevation gain: 119 m
This partially paved trail follows Highway 56 along the eastern side of Katepwa Lake. Despite its proximity to the highway, it still offers beautiful natural views and is a great trail for hikers of all skill levels. Parking and trailhead are located at the corner of Highway 56 and Regina Avenue.

Distance: 14.2 km
Elevation gain: 387 m
Get the blood pumping as you enjoy views of the rolling hills, inland lakes and boreal forest found in Duck Mountain Provincial Park. This is just a small sample of the over 130 kilometres of trails found within the park. Parking and trailhead are located just off of Highway 57 across from the Kamsack Beach subdivision.

Pelly Point Nature Trail
Distance: 4.5 km
Elevation gain: 109 m
Enjoy some more of Duck Mountain Provincial Park’s magic with this out-and-back trail. Pack a lunch and grab a spot by the midway point on the shores of Madge Lake where you’ll find bathrooms, a warming hut, picnic tables and a fire pit. The trail is located along Kamsack Avenue.

Lion’s Family Trail

Following the southern edge of Annie Laurie Lake, the Lion’s Family trail is the perfect afternoon outing. A popular spot for birders, you’ll also find a variety of unique plants and butterflies .Find the trailhead at the north end of 2nd Street Northeast in Preeceville.
